The day of Akshay Tritiya is a very auspicious day. People do a lot of charity on this day. Some of them purchase gold or some other assets on this day. Rice, salt, ghee, sugar, vegetables, tamarind, fruit, clothes, can be given out as a charity.Akshay Tritiya is

celebrated with great pomp and show in temples and homes. Most families keep a fast on this day, and after puja, meals are allowed. Special pujas are performed by offering barley in the holy fire. Blessed water of Tulsi is besprinkled at the time of Aarti.

Some worship Lord Vishnu as it is a birthday of Parasurama, the 6th incarnation of Vishnu. And some worship Lord Ganesha and Devi Laxmi as a mark of fortune.

This day is named as "Akha Teej" to the Jat family. They also consider this as an auspicious day.
In the early morning, a male member of Jat family goes to the agricultural field. All the approaching animals and birds on the way signify profusion of crops.
On this day mass marriage ceremonies are executed. It is regarded an unboojha muhurat.

The word "Akshaya" signifies everlasting or perpetual. Starting of something or purchasing some valuables is believed to convey achievement or good luck. Buying gold on the holy day is the ultimate mark of affluence and opulence and signifier of ever present best fortune.
