Bengal - History of Dakshineshwar   Prev Page
  Dakshineshwar temple

Stalwarts like Vivekananda, Girish Ghosh and men of their kind called on Ramakrishna at this place. Sri Ramakrishna used to stay in a chamber at the right of the main entrance of the temple. His possessions are still conserved in this room. By the side of the Ganga, outside the temple, stands the 'Panchavati' tree, a cluster of 5 banyan trees, where Sri Ramakrishna used to meditate. He served as temple's head priest and was so overcome with ecstatic love for the deity that he

would fall to the ground and remain immersed in spiritual trance, lose all consciousness of the external world, whenever he worshipped the Goddess Kali. He fully realized the infinite and all-inclusive nature of the divine.

Ramakrishna died in 1886 at the age of fifty but his life, his intense spiritual practices, and the temple of Kali where many of his ecstatic trances occurred continues to attract pilgrims from all over India and the world. The whole ambience of this temple with the arboreta is extremely ethereal. Even now, we get the blessings of

Maa-Kali from Dakshineswar for any distress of life, any problem of mental agonies and anxieties or for any family criticalities to get peaceful solutions and successful achievements in fulfilling the prayers by the touch of her auspicious Nirmalya and Pujas with pure heart. Still the temple attracts pilgrims and tourists from all over India and world.
