  Devi Durga Temples

Devi Durga Temple
Goddess Durga is worshipped as a form of Shakti, for her gracious as well as terrifying aspect. The word Shakti means divine force/power. Devi Durga symbolizes that. There are many Durga temples in India. Durga is also called by many other names like Parvati, Kali, Ambika etc.

The Goddess Shakti (the Goddess of power) is the complete incarnation of Adi Shakti. The three chief manifestations of Shakti are Durga, Mahakali and Gouri.

There are innumerable temples dedicated to Goddess Durga. These temples help to promote and flourish the richness of Hindu religion.

Out of them, the Shakti Peethas (places of worship consecrated to the Goddess of Shakti or Sati) are most important and considered to be the holiest.
There are over fifty Shakti Peethas. Out of them four are considered as the Adi Shakti Peethas.

They are situated in Puri, Kolkata, Guwahati and Berhampore.

The two most famous and popular Shakti Peethas are situated at Vaisno Devi, Jammu & Kashmir and at Kamakhya, Assam.

Durga Puja is the most widely celebrated festival, especially in West Bengal. One of the organizers, 23 Pally, has established a temple of Goddess Durga.
