The fervour of the festivity whose impact is most felt on the four important days of the celebration, begins a fortnight ahead. A magic wand clears the monsoon clouds to reveal the clear blue sky with floating cotton white balls. The breezy mornings-

bright sunshine-spurt of laughter-bustle of shoppers-mild smell of shiuli flowers and the patches of kash on lush green fields-the Durga Puja 2007 countdown has begun!

Navami Puja is the last day of offering Puja. 'Navami Bhog' or 'prasad' is distributed among all.At 'Sandhikhan', sacrifices are executed. Sandhi Puja is performed where 108 lamps are lit. People continue to visit Puja pandals in groups.

Ashtami, the most important day of the four day festivity. 'Pushpanjali' or showering flowers on the Goddess after repeating the mantras recited by the purohit is performed. People throng the Puja mandaps to catch a glimpse of the best made Pandals and the most beautiful Goddess.
